I just read some of the responses to my demo of Here's to Christmas. It took a bit of work to post that track before Dec 25 got here, but it's worth it to know that some of the ideas and images in it were appreciated. When I started writing that song a few years ago, I wanted it to be about hope, community, helping, and other good things about the season. I asked my youngest son - then about 6 - why he thought Christmas was important and he said 'it's a day of peace' - so that became the core of the first verse about a missing soldier. The second verse, about a homeless woman, grew out of comments from a friend about how busy shelters and food banks are at this time of year. Funny how these things start, and where they end up!
